The Carnival dresses up the streets

Dijous Llarder sets the start of the celebrations. This period is known as darrers dies (last days), which pinpoint the last days before Lent, in which it's traditional to eat coca amb tallades with sobrassada, candied fruits and coca de llerdons (a kind of suet pastry).
During the whole weekend lots of rúes (carnival parades) can be seen, in which kids and adults parade in fancy dresses through the old town. Carnival is a permissive, ironic celebration; therefore it's common to see fancy dresses symbolizing important people in comical situations.
On Sunday there's an award ceremony for the best costumes.
